Conor McGregor mocks Eddie Alvarez for what he's being paid at UFC 205

Conor McGregor knows he's the highest paid athlete on the UFC roster, but he's also well aware that anybody who fights him has the chance to also cash in on his celebrity.

Nate Diaz earned $2.5 million over two fights with McGregor this year and will likely double or even triple that based on the additional money made from pay-per-view sales.

So McGregor couldn't help himself when he unleashed a tirade aimed at Eddie Alvarez when he revealed that the lightweight champion didn't get a new contract to face him at UFC 205.

Instead, McGregor says Alvarez just accepted the fight on his last deal with the UFC and won't reap the full benefits for what a matchup with the outspoken Irishman could potentially bring after November 12 is finished.

"He got it done by signing his last contract. He didn't even negotiate new money for himself," McGregor said at the UFC 205 pre-fight press conference. "Imagine that — look at everybody up here, they're all dressed like me, they're all trying to talk like me, they're all trying to be me. Everyone in the game wants this fight. This is the lottery fight and this man took it on his last contract.

Alvarez chimed up and claimed that he didn't ask for more money from the UFC because he knew beating McGregor was a formality when they finally stepped into the Octagon together .

"I was OK with the money, I wasn't going to negotiate the money cause this guy's easy money. Easy money," Alvarez said.

Alvarez nearly missed out on the fight with McGregor after the UFC started to put together a matchup with No. 1 ranked lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov instead.

The deal eventually got done and Alvarez signed to fight McGregor and now he'll main event the first ever UFC card in Madison Square Garden.

As for McGregor's terms to sign for the fight, he backed up his tweet from a week ago when he said "beg me" without any further explanation and said that's exactly what he received to make the bout with Alvarez official.

"I just said it out straight — beg me — and they begged me," McGregor said.  "That was all I wanted. That was all I asked."
