As the 2016 Olympic games get underway this weekend, athletes from around the world have been carrying the flame through Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in preparation for the opening ceremony on Friday.

Among the athletes carrying the torch on Thursday was UFC light heavyweight contender Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who proudly represented his home country during the ceremony.

Nogueira and his Hall of Fame brother Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira have been mainstays of popular culture in Brazil ever since their rise to fame while competing in PRIDE Fighting Championships more than a decade ago.

Nogueira has been an established star in his home country for many years and most recently entertained the Brazilians with a stellar knockout over Patrick Cummins at UFC 198 this past May in Curitiba.

Nogueira joins Fedor Emelianenko as past Olympic torch bearers after he carried the flame in his native Russia as part of the 2012 winter games in Sochi.
