Michael McDonald hasn’t had sex in almost four years

No sexy time for this guy.

Some fighters cut out sex right before they fight. Michael McDonald has stopped having sex altogether.

The UFC bantamweight has been abstinent for 3 1/2 years and he told Fox Sports he won’€™t engage in sex again until he marries his fiancee, Rachel, some time in 2014.

McDonald, a muscular 22-year-old elite athlete, decided nearly four years ago to become something of a born-again virgin. He didn’t want the act to be the same thing as having a beer at the end of the day to blow off steam.

"€œIt didn’€™t make me happy,"€ McDonald said. "€œIt’€™s escaping what’€™s going on. I didn’t want it to be an escape. There’€™s the pursuit of it, never being satisfied. I felt empty."

I didn’t want it to be an escape. There’€™s the pursuit of it, never being satisfied. I felt empty.

After McDonald lost to Cole Escovedo in WEC in 2009, he went through a very rough time in his life. Eventually, he turned himself over to God after a spiritual awakening.

"Either I reached the point of insanity and there were voices in my head talking to myself or God talked to me,"€ said McDonald, who meets Urijah Faber on Dec. 14 at UFC on FOX: Johnson vs. Benavidez II. "Something in my head told me, ‘He loves me and cares about me.’ "

McDonald considers himself a Christian, but doesn’t believe in a ‘legalistic’ religion. He is spiritual and part of that rebirth was making the decision to become abstinent.

McDonald met his fiance 2 1/2 years ago and he says she has no problem with him waiting until marriage to have sex.

"€œShe is exactly like me in every way,"€ McDonald said. "She agrees with everything I’m doing. She’s right there with me."

The couple will get married in 2014. A date hasn’t been set yet, because he plans on booking a fight first and having the wedding right after it. That way he can enjoy the whole process — especially the honeymoon in Hawaii.

"There will be absolutely no training on our honeymoon,"€ McDonald said.

No shock there.
