This was Mattek-Sands’ ninth doubles title and the 17th for Shaughnessy.
The Americans clinched victory when a volley from Makarova went long.
”I had a little bit of a layoff,” Shaughnessy said. ”I’ve had a couple of knee surgeries so this means a lot to come back … We’re a dangerous team.”
The pair didn’t drop a set in the tournament.
Mattek-Sands also reached the semifinals in the singles, losing to Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-0.
