Tsonga upset by Klizan in US Open’s 2nd round

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lost before the third round of a Grand Slam

tournament for the first time since 2007, surprised by 52nd-ranked

Martin Klizan of Slovakia 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 Thursday at the U.S.


The No. 5-seeded Tsonga was drawn to face No. 3 Andy Murray in

the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows, but couldn’t make it past

the second round.

Tsonga was a Wimbledon semifinalist in July, then won a doubles

silver medal for France at the Olympics.

Tsonga last failed to make it through two matches at a major

when he lost to Andy Roddick in the first round of the 2007

Australian Open. Tsonga reached the 2008 Australian Open final.
