Federer to play in strong Monte Carlo Masters field

PARIS (AP) Roger Federer will play at the Monte Carlo Masters next month in a strong field featuring nine of the 10 best players in the world.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion is making his way back from injury after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus last month. The 34-year-old Swiss star has not played since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals.
Federer has lost in the Monte Carlo final four times, to Stan Wawrinka in 2014 and three consecutive years to Rafael Nadal. Djokovic won in 2015.

Japanese player Kei Nishikori, ranked sixth, is the only top-10 player not in the field.
