Jul 31, 2012; Manchester , United Kingdom; USA goalie Hope Solo prior to the game against North Korea during the women's preliminary round in the London 2012 Olympic Games at Old Trafford.
Hope Solo and Jerramy Stevens might not be the model for functional relationships. They lead the line of high-profile couples that are among the worst pairings in sports.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Nobody seemed surprised when Kim Kardashian began dating NBA player Kris Humphries in 2010. After all, Kardashian is known for high-profile relationships with athletes. Anyone remember Reggie Bush and Miles Austin? Kris and Kim married in an opulent, made-for-TV ceremony but really sent shockwaves through Hollywood and the NBA when they split after just 72 days.
Lamar Odom & Khloe Kardashian
Odom hooked up with the reality starlet while playing for the Lakers, landed a TV series that included a broadcast wedding, and things went downhill from there. He was traded to Dallas, where he was miserable and eventually cut loose. He reportedly blamed the demands of stardom for the deterioration of his hoops career, and while he's back in LA with the Clippers, there have been reports that the couple is headed for divorce — just like Khloe's big sis Kim.
Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren Woods
The two were married for six years, but Tiger's Thanksgiving 2009 car accident outside his home led to revelations of affairs with multiple women, including at least one porn actress. Apparently married life didn't satisfy the golf superstar.
Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada
Johnson, the NFL star, and Lozada, the reality TV star and former fiancee of NBA star Antoine Walker, divorced after just 2 1/2 months. The marriage couldn't survive Johnson's arrest for headbutting his wife after she confronted him over a receipt for condoms.
Deion and Pilar Sanders
The two were married 12 years with three children and appeared the model couple, even appearing on faith-based programs to preach the word. Even their breakup seemed dignified, with Deion announcing "Pilar and I have decided to end our marriage and move on to the next phase of our individual lives with mutual respect. We are friends and our top priority has and will continue to be the well-being of our children." Then all hell broke loose with Twitter trash talk, a domestic incident and arrest, and all kinds of drama.
Chuck Finley and Tawny Kitaen
Finley was living the life as a pitcher for the Angels married to an actress who once writhed on two Jags in a Whitesnake video. Alas, the marital bliss didn't last, as Kitaen was jailed in 2002 on misdemeanor domestic violence charges for an alleged attack on her husband with her stiletto. Finley missed a start and filed for divorce three days later. During the bitter breakup, Kitaen alleged that Finley used steroids, marijuana and alcohol. "I can't believe she left out cross-dressing," he said.
Frank and Jamie McCourt
The two were one of LA's premier power couples after they bought the Dodgers. But in 2009 the McCourts separated, and Frank fired Jamie from her position as CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers, citing insubordination as well as an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate — reportedly her bodyguard. The Dodgers later filed for bankruptcy, and on Nov. 1, 2011, Frank McCourt agreed to sell the team for more than $1 billion. And he needed to, in order to pay the pricey divorce settlement. All while the Dodgers slipped in stature and fans cursed the McCourts' names.
Jason and Joumana Kidd
Joumana Kidd alleged "numerous liaisons and perpetual physical and emotional abuse" by her basketball-player husband. Jason's response: She did, too.
Kobe and Vanessa Bryant
These two are on and off more than Phil Jackson and the Lakers. Vanessa filed divorce papers that cite "irreconcilable differences," and rumors are that she found out he was cheating on her — again. Kobe was involved in an infamous 2003 incident in which a woman filed a sexual assault claim against the basketball star. He did admit to the incident but said the sex was consensual, and charges were later dropped. The couple stayed together, with the help of a $4 million ring, and appear to have patched up things again in recent months.
Rick Fox and Vanessa Williams
Living on opposite coasts for most of the marriage led to the breakdown of the union between the basketball star and his actress wife, according to People magazine. But there were rumors of infidelity by Fox.
Mike Tyson and Robin Givens
After dating Eddie Murphy and Brad Pitt, Givens decided to settle down and married boxer Mike Tyson. Following a turbulent marriage, they filed for divorce on Valentine's Day, 1989. How romantic.
Anna Kournikova and Sergei Federov
He says they were married and then got a divorce. She denies all knowledge of it. Either way, they were supposedly once together and now they're supposedly apart. Kournikova put the entire situation behind her and has been in a relationship with singer Enrique Iglesias for close to a decade.
Andre Agassi: Brooke Shields and Barbra Streisand
This was a tough one. Do we go with the young Hollywood actress or the old superstar singer? In the end, Agassi laid a big fat egg with both of them but we prefer Shields, who actually went as far as to marry him before deciding he wasn't The One.
John McEnroe and Tatum O'Neal
Someone actually married hot-tempered McEnroe? And she was an Oscar winner to boot? You cannot be serious! Not surprising, this doubles match became a singles tournament after less than 10 years of marriage.
Cynthia and Alex Rodriguez
We have to wonder what's more torturous: Being married to A-Rod or getting dumped for Madonna? In the end, Cynthia got the better deal. She's collecting alimony and living in the former couple's $12 million mansion while A-Rod was outed as a steroid user.
Lance Armstrong: Kristin Richards and Sheryl Crow
It's a tale of two women: one was little-known until she met, married and had kids with a cyclist, the other a singer-songwriter who was a celebrity before she even met him. But they have one thing in common: Breaking up with Lance Armstrong.
Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman
Rodman seems like such a nice, sweet guy that we're surprised his quickie Vegas wedding to Electra only lasted 10 days. OK, really we're surprised it actually lasted that long.
Kim Clijsters and Lleyton Hewitt
Did these two tennis pros break up because of the pressure of their sport? Maybe, although with the degree of difficulty when it comes to spelling those names, every day felt like a spelling bee.
Andre Rison and Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes
You know that song "Burning Down the House"? After an argument, Lopes took it a little too literally and set her ex's mansion on fire. It shouldn't be a surprise they didn't last.
David Justice and Halle Berry
Berry married Braves' outfielder Justice in 1993; they divorced four years later. Seriously? Everyone knows Halle is smokin' hot so we have to wonder what David was thinking by letting her go. Since then, he retired from baseball and she won an Oscar.
Sean Avery and Elisha Cuthbert
It would be one thing to simply break up with someone, but when Sean Avery's ex took up with another hockey player, he referred to her as his "sloppy seconds" — and was quickly suspended by the NHL for his comments.
