Partnerships with U.S. Vets and Blue Star Families Provide Food to Veterans Battling Homelessness and Sports Equipment to Military Families
LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports Supports continues its commitment to honor and serve the U.S. military community with Veterans Day initiatives aimed at providing food stability to veterans on the brink of homelessness and sports equipment to military families struggling to keep their children engaged in sports and play during the current health crisis.
FOX Sports Supports joins forces with U.S. Vets, the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of comprehensive services to homeless and at-risk veterans, and its parent company, Fox Corporation, to secure food supplies and meals for veterans and families beginning Veterans Week and through the holiday season. Members in the Supportive Services for Veteran Families and other U.S. Vets housing programs are receiving the aid.
“Serving our nation’s veterans and military heroes is an integral part of the fabric of FOX Sports,” said Eric Shanks, Chief Executive Officer & Executive Producer, FOX Sports. “We couldn’t be more proud to team with U.S. Vets in standing by and serving those in need now more than ever.”
Furthering its work with nonprofit Good Sports on the Restore Play initiative, FOX Sports Supports teams with Blue Star Families, a nonprofit organization committed to building communities around the world that empower military families, to deliver fitness equipment and athletic apparel to its members in New York and Chicago.
“We are so grateful for the generous donations from FOX Sports and Good Sports. The sporting equipment and apparel will help to create opportunities for our military families to enjoy sports and create community during this challenging time,” said Kathy Roth-Douquet, Chief Executive Officer, Blue Star Families.
In New York, families of active duty servicemembers in the Fort Wadsworth Sector Housing on Staten Island received play packs consisting of sports equipment and apparel for their children to stay active at home in the wake of cancelled sports activities.
In Chicago, donations of sports and fitness equipment were made to the military-impacted North Chicago School District 187 for the families of 335 children lacking the necessary resources to supplement virtual learning physical education classes.
In addition to its community engagement efforts, FOX Sports continues its tradition of saluting the troops as FOX NFL SUNDAY, the No. 1 NFL pregame show for 26 seasons, aired its show live from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, just outside San Diego.
In past years, FOX Sports has broadcast from West Point (2019), Fort Benning (2018, 2014), Naval Station Norfolk (2017), Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (2015), Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan (2009), and the USS Harry S. Truman in the Mediterranean Sea (2000), among multiple other locations.
