WWE Rumors: Royal Rumble 2017 Location Confirmed
The location for the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view has been confirmed.
Every January, WWE has the Royal Rumble pay-per-view take place near the end of the month. It welcomes in the new year for the company and gets the build toward WrestleMania going.
The highlight of this show is the Royal Rumble match, which pits 30 Superstars against each other in an over the top rope contest to determine who gets a world title shot at WrestleMania. The 2016 event differed from this, though, with Roman Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Triple H would win after last eliminating Dean Ambrose.
Well, the 2017 PPV is just three-plus months away, so things are steadily being finalized. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Royal Rumble will take place in San Antonio, TX. No date got confirmed this. It’s the 20th anniversary of this show taking from the Alamo Dome in the city. The event also took place there in 2007. It should be noted both Rumbles saw a Texas native win.
The 2017 Royal Rumble field should develop over the next few months, with Raw and SmackDown Superstars involved. It will be interesting to see how this works, as the winner of this gimmick bout may not headline WrestleMania 33. That person could be included in the Universal Championship match, but get triumphed by the WWE World Championship bout. A non-title match could even get the nod in the main event, similar to WrestleMania 28 with The Rock and John Cena.
Before WWE gets to Royal Rumble, No Mercy, Hell in a Cell, Survivor Series, TLC and Roadblock all have to take place. Along with the weekly Raw and SmackDown shows, there should be plenty ahead before the traditional PPV in 2017. Who will walk out a winner?
