WWE Raw Preview: October 3, 2016
With Monday’s WWE Raw headlined by a high-profile Women’s Championship match, what else can we expect to see on the show?
WWE Raw returns to the Staples Center in Los Angeles and the fans inside the stadium will see something neither the Clippers nor Lakers have brought to the building in quite some time: championships. Specifically, they’ll see the Women’s Championship defended in what should but likely won’t be the main event of the evening as Sasha Banks finally gets her rematch for Charlotte’s title.
But this isn’t all that will go down on the first Raw of October. Cesaro and Sheamus will be continuing their journey as a newly-formed tag team, presumably against some more “local competitors”. As they progress through this odd-couple storyline, it will be interesting to see if they’re being given a legitimate push as a tag team or if this is just a way for WWE to pair together two guys they don’t know what to do with.
There will also be some more developments in the Cruiserweight division as TJ Perkins continues his reign as champion. It seems as if Brian Kendrick will finagle his way into another title shot, but only time will tell. For now, we’ll still be able to enjoy some of the best wrestling on the planet as more Cruiserweights are sure to be in action whether there are title implications or not.
But that’s not all. There will be plenty more occurring tonight in order to fill the usual three hours. With that in mind, let’s get to our in-depth Raw preview for October 3rd.

Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson Will Make an Appearance
Just when you think the celebrity appearances are starting to die down, WWE brings them right back. A few months ago, P Diddy was a guest on Raw, but he didn’t have any forced comedy angles or empty conflicts with one of the superstars. He merely appeared backstage and that was that. It all went rather smoothly. But this feels like it will be different, and not in a good way.
Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson are apparently calling out Jeri-KO (well, mostly Jericho himself) and are showing up to Raw to confront them. This is upsetting for a million reasons but we’ll cut it down to just a few.
First of all, it’s so painfully obvious that this is just to advertise Kutcher and Masterson’s new Netflix series, “The Ranch”. That’s all well and good, but why not just advertise the show traditionally rather than have these two show up? Things rarely turn out well for anyone when celebrity guests show up. They often make either themselves or the superstars look foolish and that helps no one.
Secondly and perhaps more importantly, why is the top champion on the Raw brand being dragged into this? Kevin Owens is supposed to be in a blood feud with Seth Rollins right now, but he’s apparently going to be a pawn in this horrible advertising scheme? That’s not a good look.
Oh and by the way, Ashton. Look into the camera next time you film yourself recording a video. Looking at the phone screen itself is not how you look at your audience.

What Will Seth Rollins Do Next?
Seth Rollins’ face turn just keeps meandering along ever-so-slowly. He’s been competing almost strictly against heels, he’s been getting cheated out of victories, and he hasn’t said anything bad about the fans in a while. The one thing that might be holding him back, though, is the strange dynamic between him and Raw General Manager Mick Foley.
Foley and Rollins aren’t on the best terms right now. Last week, Rollins promised to attack Owens in the main event and Foley had to stop him. The problem is Foley and to a lesser extent, Stephanie McMahon are both babyface authority figures at the moment. That means Rollins is defying authority figures that we’re supposed to be OK with, which is a weird situation, to say the least. Either way, things will continue to progress toward the full Rollins face turn we all need to see.
The other issue at hand is Rollins being medically cleared. He seemed to have legitimately injured his ribs at Clash of Champions, but now the injury is being turned into an angle whether it’s real or not. Will Rollins be able to compete tonight? We’ll have to wait and see, but even if he doesn’t he will almost surely try to cause more chaos at the expense of Owens and Foley.

Will Sasha Banks Regain the Women’s Championship?
When Sasha Banks lost the Women’s Championship to Charlotte at SummerSlam, it was one of the more shocking title changes in recent memory. Sasha had just won the title on Raw a few weeks prior and figured to spearhead the division as champion for at least a few months. After all, Charlotte had just held the title for over 300 days, so it was time for a change. But nagging injuries forced the boss to drop the strap and take a little time off before getting back in the ring.
Now Sasha’s back. And following a Clash of Champions triple threat that saw her and Bayley lose to Charlotte, Sasha is finally getting her one-on-one rematch that she is owed as a result of the SummerSlam loss. So will history repeat itself? Will Sasha re-capture the title on Raw yet again just a few months after she won it the first time?
The best part about this is it really is unpredictable. WWE could easily decide that since Sasha’s healed, they want to go ahead with the original plans of having her as champion. And from a storyline perspective, it makes a lot of sense. Charlotte seems to be moving toward an eventual program with Dana Brooke, and does Dana really have any business challenging for the Women’s title? Not really. Thus, it would make sense for Charlotte to drop it before it comes time for Dana to turn on her mentor for good.
This match could and should be the main event. These two women bring it every time they step into the ring and with no other big matches announced as of yet, this would work just fine.
