WWE Raw Preview: Goldberg Returns
Goldberg on Raw, WWE.com
Monday’s WWE Raw is headlined by the return of one of the biggest stars in the history of the business. What else can we expect on the night of Goldberg’s return?
WWE Raw emanates from the Mile High City tonight as the show makes its way to the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Raw will be headlined by the return of Goldberg, but there will plenty of other storylines featured as we continue the march toward WWE Hell in a Cell.
How much longer will Kevin Owens’ and Chris Jericho’s friendship last? For the second week in a row, Owens left Jericho out to dry as Rollins pedigreed him in the middle of the ring. While Jericho has been pretty accepting of Owens not coming to his aid, it’s fair to wonder when Y2J will finally say enough is enough.
Plus there’s the issue of Raw responding to the gauntlet that was laid down by SmackDown this past Tuesday. Everyone was hoping the brand split would lead to some more traditional Survivor Series elimination matches, but SmackDown upped the ante by proposing three separate Raw vs SmackDown elimination matches. One men’s match, one women’s match, and one tag team match. Will Raw accept the challenge?
All this and more will be addressed on tonight’s Raw, but let’s get into the most pressing matters with this week’s full Raw preview.

Will Sheamus and Cesaro Ever Get on the Same Page?
At this point it seems like the New Day may never lose their tag team championships. After a futile effort from Gallows and Anderson to dethrone the champs, Sheamus and Cesaro are next in line. But does this odd-couple team really have a chance to defeat a team that has held onto the tag titles for over 400 days?
The real question here is if Sheamus and Cesaro are actually going to be involved in a legitimate storyline, or if creative still don’t know what to do with them. There’s a real chance they were just thrown together because WWE doesn’t know has no major plans for either Sheamus or Cesaro at the moment. If that’s the case then there’s basically no chance they’ll be the ones to finally knock off the New Day, especially after so many credible have fallen short.
But what if that isn’t the case? What if Sheamus and Cesaro are going to be molded into an actual tag team that could feasibly beat the New Day? As Hell in a Cell draws ever closer, there’s only so much time to establish them as such. If they keep bickering during their matches then there’s no logical reason for them to beat a team with as much chemistry as the New Day. Will Sheamus and Cesaro finally show some cohesion, or will things just continue to fall apart between them?

Will Mick Foley Give Braun Strowman What He Wants?
Last week, we speculated who Braun Strowman’s opponent would be after he asked Mick Foley for some real competition. Unfortunately, despite speculating that the opponent could be someone like Luke Harper or Neville, Strowman just ended up facing two jobbers instead of one. Strowman said he wanted real competition or there would be consequences. Clearly he didn’t keep his word since all he did was repeat his request this past Monday, but maybe Foley will actually listen to him this time.
If he does, who could Strowman face? Well, there is one guy who will be in the building and had an impressive winning streak of his own at one point. While Goldberg is unlikely to face Strowman, it can’t be ruled out entirely. From Foley’s point of view, if Strowman is asking for competition, why not give it to him?
Obviously the downside of this is Goldberg would undoubtedly win and then move on to Brock Lesnar, which makes Strowman look weaker than a wet napkin. But would it still be fun to see? Of course it would. As for some other possible opponents, a Cruiserweight who actually puts up a fight would be pretty fun to see. Not as fun as Goldberg, but whatever.

Goldberg Makes His Return
Unless you haven’t been reading this preview and just skipped to the end for some reason, then you know we’ve alluded to this a few times. But we have to talk about it a bit more in-depth because it’s one of the biggest things to happen on Raw in quite a while.
Regardless of your opinion on Goldberg and his in-ring prowess, or lack thereof, there’s no denying he’s one of the most iconic wrestlers of all time. His undefeated streak in WCW is matched in wrestling lore by nothing except the Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak. Basically, Goldberg was a monster. Odds are if you were facing him, you were going to lose, and it was going to be in convincing fashion.
Now he’s back and is going to address something that we all knew was possible ever since the trailer for WWE 2K17 came out: a match with Brock Lesnar. Last week on Raw, Paul Heyman finally added some meat to these rumors by formally challenging Goldberg on behalf of Lesnar. Is Goldberg going to officially accept the challenge? Will we find out where this match is set to take place? The only way to know is to tune in tonight for what is sure to be a momentous occasion. Plus, we might just see him spear Paul Heyman. Who would want to miss that?
