WWE NXT: Who is Big Damo?
Who is Big Damo, WWE NXT’s newest Superstar that debuted on Wednesday night?
On Wednesday night’s episode of WWE NXT, a man named Big Damo interfered in the Rich Swann and No Way Jose vs. Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe match. He attacked Jose from behind, sending him to the ground as the referee missed the encounter. Damo stared down Wolfe as Young hit his finisher on Jose for the win. Young had tossed Sawyer Fulton’s jacket of the ring (he’s injured and won’t be in SAnitY anymore, via the Wrestling Observer), but Damo grabbed the piece of clothing and spiked it into the ramp.
It would see that this behemoth of a man is going to be part of the SAnitY stable, at least, for now. Little information had been given about him, though, so just who is Big Damo?
In October, WWE announced a handful of new signings, which were led by Tom “Tommy End” Budgen, Sarah “‘Crazy’ Mary Dobson”, and Damian “Big Damo” Mackle. They immediately reported to the WWE Performance Center.
Mackle, or “Damo” as we’ll call him, is a professional wrestler from Northern Ireland. He stands at 6-foot-3, which isn’t an unusual size for a WWE star. However, he’s listed at over 300 pounds, which will help make him into an imposing figure on programming. If SAnitY will be the Irishman’s place in developmental, then he’ll certainly be the brute force of the stable.
According to WWE’s description of him in the link above, he had been trained by former NXT Champion Finn Balor and NXT coach Robbie Brookside. So, the ties to how Damo could have gotten a call for a tryout earlier in the year and getting signed by the fall.
Prior to arriving in WWE, Damo competed in a handful of big name promotions. This includes Insane Championship Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Beyond Wrestling. He held the ICWY World Heavyweight Championship once and had one reign with the WCPW World Championship as well.
Big Damo’s role in NXT will continue to be established as the weeks go on in Florida. He’ll seemingly be part of the SAnitY stable and help them grow into developmental’s latest big thing.
