Kevin Owens is looking to retain the WWE Universal Championship over Seth Rollins one more time at WWE Hell in a Hell. Here are the reasons why he will succeed.

The way Kevin Owens won the WWE Universal Championship in late August was done through questionable tactics. If it wasn’t for the assist from Triple H, Owens would not have come out on top from a four-way match against Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Colin Cassady. He benefitted from Chris Jericho’s interference at Night of Champions to retain the title over Rollins in a singles match.

But that’s what the best heels in professional wrestling do. They win championship matches against their opponents, whether they do it clean or through villainous tactics. Kevin Owens has the ability to be the top heel in the WWE. This could be why the WWE decided to give him the WWE Universal Championship after Finn Balor was forced to vacate the title shortly after his big SummerSlam win.

The WWE Universal Championship needs a superstar that is able to show what the new era of WWE is going to provide. The WWE roster is much more diverse in terms of different looks, styles and personas, Kevin Owens might be one of the most unique WWE superstars. He’s likely the best man to help represent the new era by holding Raw’s newest heavyweight championship.

If Kevin Owens is able to hold onto the WWE Universal Championship for a lengthy period of time, it will not only be a boost for his career. It will also help the championship. It’s just one of the main reasons why Kevin Owens should defeat Seth Rollins at WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 on Oct. 30 in Boston.

3. The Universal Championship Needs a Long Reign

The WWE brand extension a few months ago brought us two separate rosters and two separate heavyweight championships. While some have not like the look of the WWE Universal Championship, it still represents the top prize for WWE Raw. Sure, it doesn’t have the same prestige that the World Heavyweight Championship had for Raw more than a decade ago.

It’s meant to represent the top prize and it needs a few years to build up the prestige to match that. That is done through great champions having lengthy reigns here and there. A championship cannot build up the necessary prestige if it is passed around in a weird version of “hot potato.” The WWE Universal Championship was first won by Finn Balor back at SummerSlam in August.

Unfortunately, Balor was unable to continue and the title was vacated. We are a few months into Kevin Owens’ reign as WWE Universal Champion. Having him drop the championship now to Seth Rollins will once again cheapen the worth of anyone winning it. And with the likely storyline coming up between Rollins and Triple H, Rollins isn’t going to be able to hold the title very long.

Kevin Owens is better suited to hold the WWE Universal Championship for several months. It can be argued that he should carry the championship all the way to WrestleMania.

2. Triple H and Rollins Feud at Survivor Series

It was mentioned briefly that there is a belief that Triple H and Seth Rollins are going to be having a feud. That’s because it was Triple H was the man who cost Rollins the WWE Universal Championship in late August. It was a moment that got a lot of wrestling fans to talk, with several media outlets making the case that the feud would likely put Rollins over as a top babyface in the WWE.

Rollins would be able to make that successful transition to the WWE’s main face if he defeats Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship this soon. For one, Rollins still has some heel tendencies. It’s been too soon since he was the heel trying to defeat Finn Balor at SummerSlam. Rollins also has some unfinished business with Triple H, who likely won’t allow him to win the title from Owens.

The feud should begin next month at Survivor Series. Maybe Rollins faced Triple H in a singles match. What will likely happen is the two being on the side of two separate sides of a Survivor Series match. Either way the WWE creative team goes, Rollins and Triple H should begin their rivalry to continue the storyline that began when Owens won the title.

1. Owens, Jericho Must Have a Title Feud

Kevin Owens needs a long run with the WWE Universal Championship with quality opponents. That’s easily one of the best ways to help boost the prestige of Raw’s main championship. With Owens holding the WWE Universal Championship for a longer period of time, there will be a need for having diverse opponents. A great option to challenge Owens for the championship would be Chris Jericho.

At the moment, Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho have become a dynamic duo on WWE Raw. This has led to their bromance being compared to such iconic duos like Jay and Silent Bob or Bert and Ernie. Both have been on fire as a team with their segments. But there’s a good chance that Jericho has secretly added Owens holding the WWE Universal Championship on the list.

Jericho is a veteran who has held multiple world championships and would be a resume building win for Kevin Owens. He recently took a moment to tease the potential championship rivalry.

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that this match would be anything less than a five-star quality bout. Regardless whether it’s on Jericho’s list, fans are putting a Jericho vs Owens title match near the top of our list.
