Miz has been in the spotlight lately, getting there with his WWE Talking Smack promo with Daniel Bryan. He got challenged, though, to see if he can stand up to the test of defending his belt. Will Miz be able to live up to the hype of his promo?

Ziggler attempted to take advantage to start the match, but Miz took him down and systematically went to work.

Miz worked some unique holds on the legs and back of Ziggler. This showed some interesting ring psychology to try to ground The Showoff.

At one point, it seemed Ziggler injured his shoulder, and Miz went after it. Ziggler went for a comeback, but got bounced into the turnbuckle.

Miz put on the inverted surfboard, potentially taking a shot at Daniel Bryan, and continued taking down Ziggler. However, Ziggler hit a dropkick to begin his comeback.

Miz hit a springboard sit out powerbomb for a near-fall. Ziggler would hit the Famouser, but couldn’t finish the pin.

Miz put on the Figure Four on Ziggler’s injured leg, but the latter man barely got to the ropes. Ziggler then hit a superkick, but couldn’t finish the pin again. Maryse would spray Ziggler in the eyes with something, leading to Miz hitting the Skull-Crushing Finale for the win.

Miz and Ziggler put on a great match in the No. 3 spot on the show. It may have been the former’s best bout since Extreme Rules, which saw the classic Fatal Four-Way go down.

The “never-ending” reign of Miz will continue, though. He has been the Intercontinental Champion since the night after WrestleMania 32, and may be for a while. Ziggler is in an awkward position, though, with losses all over the place. Could a heel turn be in store after Backlash?
