When is John Cena Returning to WWE?
John Cena’s WWE return date has been announced for a December live event.
John Cena is on his latest hiatus from WWE. He’s away to film season two of the FOX reality show, “American Grit”. This time off began after the No Mercy pay-per-view, which saw AJ Styles defeat him and Dean Ambrose to retain the WWE World Championship. Styles and Ambrose have since rekindled their one on one feud from Backlash.
When Cena would be returning to WWE hadn’t been known. In 2015, his “American Grit” time off took him away from the October Hell in a Cell PPV to the end of December. The Face That Runs the Place then suffered an injury days later, which led to him missing nearly five months.
Well, it seems Cena’s return date is known, and it’s similar to his last hiatus. According to Madison Square Garden’s website, he is going to be back for the December 26 WWE live event in New York City. This will take place at MSG and potentially be part of the company’s annual holiday tour. Cena will face Styles and Ambrose at the show. It should be noted that The Phenomenal One is listed as the WWE World Champion, despite his WWE TLC match with The Lunatic Fringe, which will take place on December 4. Things could always change, though.
It should be noted that WWE has not confirmed that this will be his return date. This is his first advertised appearance as of Friday.
Cena being back at the end of December would mean he’ll be returning in time for the 2017 Royal Rumble build. The show will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, and be the biggest January show that WWE has done in 20 years. They have to sell out 60,000 seats, so Cena will almost certainly be one of the attractions at the venue.
John Cena’s time away will keep him off Survivor Series and TLC. However, it’s only seven weeks before he’s back to grace SmackDown on Tuesday nights.
