West Virginia's Bria Holmes voted Big 12 preseason player of the year

West Virginia junior guard Bria Holmes has been named the preseason Big 12 women's basketball player of the year by the league's coaches.

Holmes led the preseason All-Big 12 team announced Wednesday. The rest of the team includes senior forwards Chelsea Gardner from Kansas and Nneka Enemkpali from Texas, TCU junior guard Zahna Medley and Baylor sophomore forward Nina Davis.

Big 12 coaches tabbed Oklahoma sophomore guard Peyton Little as the preseason newcomer of the year. She played 35 games as a freshman at Texas A&M in 2012-13.

Texas guard Ariel Atkins was named the preseason freshman of the year. Atkins played at Duncanville High, where she was part of a 105-game winning streak and two Texas UIL Class 5A state titles.
