Maryland forward Alyssa Thomas is the Atlantic Coast Conference's player of the year in women's basketball and Duke's Joanne P. McCallie is its coach of the year.
The league announced the awards Thursday.
Thomas, a sophomore, became the second underclassman to win the award. She averaged an ACC-best 17 points and was fifth in the league with an average of 8.2 rebounds. The 2011 ACC rookie of the year last year was picked to the all-conference first team earlier this week.
McCallie won the ACC's coaching award for the second time in three years. She led No. 5 Duke (24-4, 15-1) to the top seed in the conference tournament for the third straight year. That's despite losing three starters to injuries or off-court issues.
