Nina Earl scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half to lead No. 9 UCLA over Hawaii 72-44 Sunday night.
The Bruins (9-0) used a stifling full-court press to force the Rainbow Wahine (4-5) into 31 turnovers and 28 percent shooting, including 10.5 percent from 3-point range.
''I thought Earl played with a lot of poise,'' said UCLA coach Nikki Caldwell. ''I thought she did a great job of scoring in the paint for us, really looking to attack off the bounce, and we talked about that in the second half.''
Earl said she was just trying to drive the ball.
''I just stuck with it and it worked for me,'' she said.
Caldwell said the press has become a staple for the Bruins.
''We use it when we want to disrupt our opponent, force turnovers, which creates easy baskets for us. But it also allows us to speed up teams, to make them play faster than what, hopefully, they've been conditioned to do,'' she said.
Jasmine Dixon and Doreena Campbell each added 10 points for UCLA.
Keisha Kanekoa scored 16 points, and Rebecca Dew and Kamilah Jackson added 10 apiece for Hawaii.
The Bruins pounded the ball inside, shooting 43 percent and attempting only one 3-pointer. They outrebounded Hawaii 31-20 and dominated the second half after leading by only nine at the break.
UCLA is off to its best start since a 12-0 mark to open the 1980-81 season.
