No. 24 Florida St. 79, Virginia Tech 48

Chasity Clayton scored 16 points to lead No. 24 Florida State to a 79-48 victory over Virginia Tech on Thursday night in the ACC opener for both teams.

Clayton, a Virginia native, was 6 for 10 from the floor as the Seminoles (13-3, 1-0) shot 54.4 percent and won their fourth straight since a 93-62 loss at then-No. 1 Connecticut on Dec. 21. Alexa Deluzio added 15 points.

Florida State (13-3, 1-0) trailed just once after the Hokies' Brittany Gordon scored the opening basket for a 2-0 lead. The Seminoles promptly went on a 14-2 run and never trailed again. They opened their lead to 21 in the first half and 32 in the second half.

Monet Tellier scored 11 points to lead Virginia Tech (9-6, 0-1), which missed 12 straight shots after Gordon's basket. The Hokies shot just 28 percent from the floor in the first half and 35.2 percent for the game.
