Jasmine James scored 18 points to help No. 21 Georgia shake off a sluggish start in a 70-53 victory over Southern Mississippi on Wednesday night.

Georgia (6-1) missed 10 of its first 11 shots, but ended up shooting a respectable 45 percent from the field for the game.

Ranika Ransford came off the bench for the Lady Dogs to score a career-high 11 points. Porsha Phillips added 10.

Brittany Johnson led Southern Mississippi (3-3) with 16 points. Tanesha Washington had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Neither team could score at the outset. With 7 minutes to play in the half Southern Miss led 12-11, hitting five of 19 field goal attempts.

But James sparked a 10-2 run by the Lady Dogs late in the half, getting a layup off a steal and hitting two 3-pointers as Georgia took a 24-15 lead.
