Courtney Moses came up with a trick play in practice. A few hours later, she pulled it - and won the game for No. 16 Purdue.
Moses inbounded the ball off the back of an unsuspecting defender, grabbed the carom and made an uncontested layup with 13 seconds left, lifting the Boilermakers over Bowling Green 54-53 Thursday night.
''I actually thought about it in shoot-around this morning,'' Moses said.
Bowling Green plays a zone defense on inbounds plays under the basket, and all five defenders had their backs turned to Moses. She picked on Alexis Rogers, who led Bowling Green in scoring and rebounding.
''In the end of the game with as tight as it was, everybody was thinking it was out, nobody was paying attention to the bottom. Everybody's heads were turned,'' Moses said. ''I just hit it off her back and scored.''
Moses said she had used the play in AAU basketball, but never in a college game.
''Courtney Moses is savvy,'' Bowling Green coach Curt Miller said. ''That's a great player making a heady play.''
''It's happened to some of our best players in school history. It won't be the last time. It was just unfortunate when it happened,'' he said.
Purdue (2-0) held on when Bowling Green missed a 3-pointer at the end.
Bowling Green led 18-16 at halftime and went up 52-51 with 27 seconds left on a pair of free throws from Chrissy Steffen.
Brittany Rayburn had 18 points and six rebounds for Purdue. Moses finished with 13 points, six assists and three steals. Alex Guyton scored all 12 of her points in the second half.
Rogers had 10 points and eight rebounds for Bowling Green (0-2).
