Miami women upset No. 23 Syracuse 85-71
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Suriya McGuire was 7 of 11 from the floor with two 3-pointers and Miami upset No. 23 Syracuse 85-71 on Thursday.
Miami (17-7, 7-4 ACC) took the lead for good on Adrienne Motley's jumper and free throw just over five minutes into the first half. That started a 17-6 run and Miami took a 10-point lead, 35-25, into the lockers.
Syracuse drew within six early in the second half at 38-32 after four consecutive free throws by Briana Day, but Miami answered with a six-point spurt on McGuire's 3 and a three-point play from Michelle Woods to push it back to 12. The Orange spent much of the rest of the way trailing by double digits.
Woods finished with 15 points, going 13 of 15 from the line, and Motley ended with 14 points.
Alexis Peterson led Syracuse (17-8, 7-5) with 21 points and Brianna Butler had 19.
