Miami extends Meier through 2018
Miami has extended women's basketball coach Katie Meier's contract for two more seasons, after the Hurricanes won 54 games in the past two years.
Meier is now under contract through April 30, 2018.
Meier was The Associated Press' national coach of the year after last season. The Hurricanes finished this season 26-6, losing at Gonzaga in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Meier just completed her seventh season as coach of the Hurricanes. She received a five-year deal in 2010 and an extension after last season.
''Katie Meier's is a tremendously talented coach who deeply cares about the academic, athletic and social development of our student-athletes. Her relentless passion and energy has elevated our women's basketball program to national relevance over the last seven years,'' Miami athletic director Shawn Eichorst said in a release. ''We look forward to continued growth in our program and are excited that she will be representing the university and leading our student-athletes for many years.''
Meier and the Canes have posted a 54-11 record over the last two seasons and shared the 2011 ACC regular season championship.
Meier thanked the university, Eichorst and Miami President Donna E. Shalala in the release.
''My staff and I are proud to represent this fine institution and are grateful to be able to continue in our long-term plan of success and championships,'' Meier said.
