DePaul's Hampton to miss remainder of season

DePaul senior forward Keisha Hampton will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing exploratory right knee surgery Thursday.

Hampton had appeared in just one game since Dec. 13 for the 20th-ranked Blue Demons (14-3, 2-1 Big East). She's averaged 16.6 points this season and has 1,574 points in her career.

''Keisha Hampton has been one of the greatest players in DePaul history,'' DePaul coach Doug Bruno said. ''Her presence and her ability to take over a game will definitely be missed. Losing any player to an injury is one of the only things that stinks about coaching.''

Earlier this week, DePaul announced it would be without freshmen Alexa Gallagher (right knee) and Chanise Jenkins (left ankle) for the season.

Taylor Pikes, last season's Big East sixth man of the year, has yet to play a game for the Blue Demons. She is currently recovering from a knee injury sustained against Penn State in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

''The silver lining to losing four key players at one time is that the remaining healthy players have stepped up in this adversity,'' Bruno added. ''I have been very impressed with the resolve that our healthy players have shown during this season.''

DePaul is coming off a 60-52 loss at Providence. The Blue Demons, who are left with nine healthy players, host Pitt next Saturday.
