No. 10 North Carolina will be without forward Jessica Breland when the Tar Heels visit No. 15 Maryland on Sunday.

Team officials said Saturday in a statement that Breland underwent arthroscopic surgery Friday to remove two ''loose bodies'' in her left knee.

The school says she will not travel to Maryland and her status after that is day to day.

Breland is averaging 12.6 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Tar Heels (17-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). The fifth-year senior sat out last season while she was treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma.
