No. 11 South Carolina women beat Georgia 65-57
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Destanni Henderson scored 14 points and No. 11 South Carolina pulled away from Georgia late to take a 65-57 victory on Thursday night.
Doniyah Cliney scored 10 of 12 points in the second half and Alexis Jennings finished with 11 for the Gamecocks (18-6, 10-1), who were coming off a 97-79 loss to No. 4 UConn but have now won six straight Southeastern Conference games.
Taja Cole scored 19 points, 15 in the second half, for the Lady Bulldogs (14-10, 5-6), who have lost five of their last six games, and have dropped 10 straight against the Gamecocks. Jenna Staiti added 11 points.
Georgia scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 53. From there, South Carolina outscored Georgia 12-4, including 8 of 10 at the line while the Lady Bulldogs were 2 of 11 from the field.
Georgia led for the opening three minutes of the game but South Carolina used an 11-0 run with six points from Henderson to take the lead and kept it until the lone tie.
The Gamecocks made 21 of 26 free throws to 9 of 11 for Georgia.
