Charles, Prince lead Liberty past Sun, 90-78

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) Tina Charles scored a season-high 31 points, Epiphanny Prince added 23 and the New York Liberty beat the Connecticut Sun 90-78 on Friday night for their fourth straight victory and ninth in 10 games

The Liberty (16-6) extended their Eastern Conference lead to three games over Indiana, Washington and Chicago. When New York coach Bill Laimbeer took the floor, the pregame music was pre-empted by ''The Imperial March'' from ''Star Wars.''

Charles, coming off a career-worst four-point game Tuesday night, was 14 of 21 from the field and also had eight rebounds. Prince topped 20 points for the third straight game. Swin Cash added 10 points.

Alex Bentley led the Sun (12-11) with 19 points, and Kelsey Bone had 17.

The Sun shot 64 percent in the first quarter, but finished 29 of 57 (51 percent) and made 17 turnovers, leading to 26 Liberty points.

New York had its highest-scoring game of the season.
