Charles, Prince help NY Liberty beat Mystics 79-76 in OT

WASHINGTON (AP) Tina Charles had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Epiphanny Prince scored 12 points in her New York debut, helping the Liberty defeat the Washington Mystics 79-76 Thursday in overtime.

The Liberty (7-4) scored the last six points in overtime to beat the Mystics (6-5). Kiah Stokes, who had five blocks, deflected Kara Lawson's 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Prince, acquired from Chicago for Cappie Pondexter in an offseason trade of WNBA All-Star guards from Rutgers, started the surge with two free throws with 1:24 left. Charles scored to put the Liberty up 77-76.

Sugar Rodgers, who missed two free throws with 19 seconds left, was fouled after a steal and added two free throws with seven second remaining. She finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Stefanie Dolson led Washington with career highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds. She missed a contested 3-pointer at the end of regulation at 69-all. Lawson finished with 14 points.

Tied at 67 with 2:03 to play, a power outage blamed on construction in the Verizon Center delayed the game 17 minutes.

Prince missed the first 10 games of the season playing for Russia in a European tournament.
