Weigh-ins go well for fighters

Published Aug. 3, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Each of the fighters on the main and preliminary cards for UFC on FOX: Shogun vs. Vera made weight at Staples Center on Friday.

Brandon Vera came in at 203.8 pounds and his opponent in Saturday’s main event, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, weighed in at the light heavyweight limit of 205 pounds. Co-main event competitor Ryan Bader tipped the scales at 205 and Lyoto Machida, who took a drink out of a protein shaker cup before he weighed in, was 201.

“It’s going to end with my hand in the air,” Vera said on Fuel TV when asked for a prediction on his fight.

The fighter with the most impressive win between these final two bouts of UFC on FOX will be assured a shot at the light heavyweight title, UFC president Dana White proclaimed earlier this week. Two of the fighters – Rua and Machida – have already been light heavyweight titleholders.

The fighter tapped by White will go against either current champ Jon Jones or Dan Henderson. Jones and Henderson meet at UFC 151 on Sept. 1.

The main card also includes bouts between welterweights Mike Swick (170) and DeMarques Johnson (171), and lightweights Joe Lauzon (155.8) and Jamie Varner (156). UFC on FOX begins Saturday, Aug 4 at 8 p.m. ET.

Preliminary matches can be seen on Fuel TV starting at 5 p.m. ET.
