UFC will make first trip to Arizona in December for FOX event

It has been a year of firsts for the UFC and the organization will cap 2014 off with another one.

The UFC announced Saturday night that it would be holding its next FOX show on Dec. 13 in Phoenix. It'll be the first time the UFC has ever gone to Arizona. The event, which has long been rumored, will take place at the US Airways Center.

The last time a Zuffa organization held a show in the state was December 2010, the final WEC event. On that card, Anthony Pettis won the WEC lightweight title from Benson Henderson in an extremely memorable five-round unanimous decision victory. Not only was it the 2010 Fight of the Year, but Pettis made MMA history with his "Showtime kick" off the cage, one of the most incredible moves ever pulled off inside a cage.

No main event has been announced, but there is no shortage of Arizona-based fighters for the UFC to choose from, including Henderson, who trains at the MMA Lab in nearby Glendale.
