UFC 208 Predictions: Performance Bonus Picks

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:50 p.m. ET

The UFC’s second pay-per-view card in NY will feature some highly talented fighters. Don’t sleep on the names that will be sure to deliver tonight in Brooklyn.

UFC 208 brings fans a 10-fight card full of finishing potential. Who will be taking home an extra $50k?

Fight of the Night: De Randamie vs. Holm

The main event tonight will be a delight for striking fans, as both Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie come from successful backgrounds in boxing and kickboxing, respectively.

While blasting walk-off KOs aren’t traditionally a feature of the lighter weight classes, what is sure to be a technical showcase between the two will doubtless feature all the crafty slipping and countering that make striking matches so enjoyable.

Performance of the Night: Randy Brown

Belal Muhammad will walk into tonight’s FS1 prelim bout giving up a significant six inches of reach against his opponent, Randy Brown. ‘Rude Boy’ has been boxing since he was fifteen years old, he knows how to use range to his advantage, and indeed, 5 of his 9 pro victories have come via KO or TKO.

Though Belal has punching power of his own, Brown will know how to keep him on the wrong end of his range, using all the devastation his long limbs afford him.

Performance of the Night: Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva is a dangerous man. A statement like this seems almost controversial in recent times, however. Silva, 41, has been called an ‘over the hill’ fighter by many detractors. His age has been blamed, and his motivation questioned. He hasn’t officially won a fight since 2012, and those that admire his legendary career have used this as reason to call for his retirement.

This idea of Silva being past it has almost become an obsession, so much so that what would sound obvious under normal circumstances bears repeating: Anderson Silva is a dangerous man. His technical background and skillset is superlative. His quickness will have certainly diminished with age, but it is only one of the many tools that he can use to hurt an opponent very badly.

Derek Brunson would do well to focus on the task at hand, and not feed into the hype of Silva merely being a big name there to pad his resume.
