UFC 208: Ian McCall Out Of Brooks Bout Due To Illness

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:22 p.m. ET

Uncle Creepy just can’t catch a break. Seems as though every time he gets close to the octagon something happens to his opponent, or in this case, himself.

UFC flyweight Ian McCall is out of his UFC 208 bout vs Jarred Brooks due to illness according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. McCall reportedly fell ill overnight and went to the hospital in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday. He has been ruled physically unable to compete and has been pulled from his fight by the promotion.

McCall last fought in early 2015 at UFC 183 where he lost a decision to John Lineker. Since then McCall has either had opponents withdraw from bouts or had to withdraw from the fight himself.

McCall was forced to withdraw from a Fight Night bout vs Dustin Ortiz in mid-2015, and he withdrew from a fight against Neil Seery in Belfast just recently. He lost opponents when Justin Scoggins was unable to make weight at UFC 201 and Ray Borg fell ill before their bout at UFC 203.

McCall (13-5) is famous for giving UFC champion Demetrious Johnson two of his most competitive fights in the UFC. The two fought to a draw in March 2012 and three months later McCall lost to Johnson by decision.

With McCall out, and with no time to find a replacement, the fight has been pulled from the prelims.

Okamoto released the news on twitter on Saturday morning.

This will certainly begin a discussion about McCall’s future in professional fighting due to this unfortunate string of unlucky events.

No official word on McCall’s condition has been released. The card will continue on with just 10 bouts scheduled for the promotion’s second card in New York City.
