UFC 206: Valerie Letourneau Welcomes Newcomer Poliana Botelho
UFC 206 from Toronto has its first fight, as former strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau will fight Brazilian prospect Poliana Botelho.
The first addition to UFC 206 looks to be Valerie Letourneau (8-5) defending home turf against Brazilian prospect, Poliana Botelho (5-1). The two WMMA fighters have verbally agreed to fight on December 10, when the promotion makes its much anticipated return to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Combate.com first reported the news Wednesday evening.
Letourneau competed in the first-ever women’s flyweight bout in UFC history. Unfortunately, things didn’t go her away after losing to Joanne Calderwood via third-round TKO at UFC Fight Night: Ottawa in June.
In the fight before, “Trouble” challenged Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the UFC women’s strawweight championship, but fell short following a unanimous decision loss. The 33-year-old Quebec native fighting out of American Top Team in Florida had won her first three bouts in the UFC before losing back-to-back fights.
Botelho, 27, has not fought since September of last year, when she defeated Silvana Gomez Juarez via fourth-round TKO (retirement) at XFC in Brazil. The Nova Uniao prospect is on a three-fight winning streak and all of her victories have resulted via (T)KO.
It has been more than three years since the UFC held an event Toronto. The last time they had done so was at UFC 165, when Alexander Gustafsson pushed Jon Jones to the limit in a main event classic. UFC 206 will be the fifth time the promotion holds an event in Toronto; the 22nd in Canada.
