UFC 205: Conor McGregor promises to retire Eddie Alvarez
Conor McGregor takes issue to Eddie Alvarez’s comments and promises to end Alvarez’s career at UFC 205.
The matchup between Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez is a few short days away and both men continue to verbally attack each other every time an opportunity presents itself. McGregor has launched the most recent attack, even bringing Alvarez’s wife and children into the conversation. The two men came to ahead once again during the media call leading into UFC 205.
“I’m going to retire him on this night,” McGregor said. “”I’m going to hurt you badly. I’m going to rip you up badly, I swear to God. Trust me, you’re going regret that.”
Alvarez has consistently said that he believes McGregor will be the easiest fight he’s faced in his career and that line has greatly perturbed the featherweight champion. So much so that he’s promised to batter Alvarez in a way that he hasn’t shown to date.
“I feel [people are] going to see something they haven’t seen before. I’m going to toy with this man. I’m going to really, truly rearrange his facial structure,” McGregor said. “His wife and kids will never recognize him again. His friends and the people that he knows will know that he’s not the same man after this contest. So he’s going to be in a shock when he sees that. That’s it.”
McGregor has long targeted the lightweight title; even before Alvarez defeated Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90. Even before injecting himself into the conversation as the champion, Alvarez continued to take jabs at McGregor, calling for a fight against him. Now, the two will meet in the main event of UFC 205, live from Madison Square Garden.
UFC 205 is the first event to be held in the Garden and features a card filled with title fights and former champions. Alvarez versus McGregor is the main event, with Tyron Woodley defending his welterweight title against Stephen Thompson and Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends her strawweight title against Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
