UFC 203 medical suspensions: Five fighters out indefinitely
Five fighters were handed indefinite suspensions from the Ohio Athletic Commision following UFC 203
Ohio Athletic commission has released the medical suspensions following UFC 203, and for five fighters, it’s not looking too good.
The most prominent suspension belongs to heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem, as he will be suspended indefinitely following his first round knockout loss to reigning champion Stipe Miocic The setback marked the 10th career (T)KO loss for the former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 world champion. The 36-year-old will also require a CT scan as well as an MRI before being allowed to return to active competition.
Aside from Overeem, four other fighters on the card received similarly indefinite medical suspensions: Travis Browne, who suffered a broken right index finger in his loss to former champ Fabricio Werdum, Jimmie Rivera, who suffered a grizzly eye poke during his decision win over Urijah Faber, and Brad Tavares (back) and Sean Spencer (left hand).
Other notable names include CM Punk, who suffered lopsided submission loss to Mickey Gall, and Miocic, as both were handed 45-days suspensions.
UFC 203 went down on Sept. 10 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
