Two bouts added to UFC's FS1 debut

Published May. 13, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

UFC’s debut on FOX Sports 1 is taking shape as two bouts were added to the Aug. 17 event.

Joe Lauzon will face Michael Johnson in a lightweight bout, and a welterweight fight between Matt Brown and Thiago Alves will be on the undercard, FOXSports.com confirmed on Monday.

Lauzon (22-8), a native of Bridgewater, Mass., has a huge following in Boston and runs an MMA facility in the area. Johnson (12-8), a member of Blackzilians, is coming off consecutive losses. A victory by either fighter could make them much more relevant in the stacked 155-pound division.

The card in Boston — which coincides with the debut of FOX Sports 1 — will be part of nearly eight hours of UFC coverage.

Brown (17-11) enters on a five-fight winning streak, the last a second-round TKO (elbows) over Jordan Mein at UFC on FOX 7 last month. Injuries have kept Alves (20-9) — who last fought in March 2012 — out of action in recent months.
