Tim Kennedy considering retirement if not 'in the mix' after UFC 205 win
UFC 205 may be the last time we see UFC middleweight contender Tim Kennedy.
Tim Kennedy is set to make his return to the octagon at UFC 205 against Rashad Evans. Kennedy has taken a two-year hiatus from the sport to focus on his clothing company Ranger Up and also do some acting.
Kennedy hasn’t fought since losing by TKO to Yoel Romero at UFC 178 in September 2014. Kennedy believes the fight should have been stopped since Romero didn’t answer the bell after the 2nd round. It gave Romero more time to recover from nearly being finished late in the round. Romero went on to TKO Kennedy in the 3rd round.
“I thought there was a really good chance I was never going to come back to the sport.” Kennedy told Submission Radio. “The sport has changed how lucrative it is for an athlete. As a business owner, as a guy that is making big budget movies now, that is in movies, that is on television, I do not need the sport.”
He believes with a win at UFC 205 he should be considered to be in the mix for a middleweight title shot. “If they’re not talking about me being in the mix, about me as a potential match up for Michael Bisping for the title, what’s the point?”
Kennedy has a win over UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. They fought at the Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale in April 2014 with Kennedy earning a unanimous decision victory. It was the last time Kennedy won a fight in the UFC.
You can watch Kennedy’s return to the octagon at UFC 205 on November 12 at Madison Square Garden. He is taking on former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. This is Evans’ first fight since dropping to the middleweight division.
UFC 205 will be the UFC’s return to New York after the longtime ban of MMA in the state.
