Stann on Kennedy’s fighting style

Not many are more qualified to breakdown Fight for the Troops headlining middleweight Tim Kennedy’s fighting style than former training partner and FOX Sports analyst Brian Stann. Both served in the US military to later trade punches and kicks as teammates at Jackson Winkeljohn MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In this clip, Stann discusses with fellow host Karyn Bryant how well-rounded Kennedy’s in-cage abilities are.

“One of the reasons he’s underrated in the stand-up is because he’s short,” explains Stann. “He’s got short limbs. He’s a stocky guy. He’s got to use footwork and explode through space in order to land his combinations. He’s got to be tricky. When he does, I’ve trained with him extensively in sparring, he’s very good. He’s very crafty. He switches righty to lefty, but the key is that he integrates that good striking with his takedowns.”

Speaking of those takedowns, once he has his adversary on the mat, it’s time for Kennedy to really go to work. “Smother you, tap you out, or punch you out,” states Stann of the three unfortunate options that opponent Rafael Natal will be faced with if/when Kennedy brings the fight to the floor.

Add to that, the 16-4 Kennedy’s got great cardio and surprising flexibility. Will Kennedy pull off the big win over Natal? Find out Wednesday!
