Ronda Rousey, Edmond Tarverdyan staying private about her mom's comments

Published Oct. 28, 2015 2:00 p.m. ET

Ronda Rousey is keeping her thoughts about her mother's comments regarding her coach Edmond Tarverdyan in house and won't be spreading gossip in the media.

Rousey's mother Dr. AnnMaria DeMars recently unleashed a tirade aimed at Tarverdyan, saying that he was "a terrible coach" and a "bad person" and if it were legal she would "run him over with my car."

For the first time, Rousey addressed her mother's comments towards Tarverdyan during a media session on Tuesday at her gym in Glendale, Calif.

While the question was brought up, Rousey quickly shot it down and said she preferred to speak to her mother directly about the matter and wouldn't make it headline fodder for her to read via the media.

"Any reaction and response I have for my mother, she's going to hear from me and not a media outlet," Rousey said.

As far as whether or not Rousey has actually held that conversation with her mother is also a mystery.

Rousey preferred to deal with that situation personally and doesn't believe it needs to go any further than what is said between her and her mother.

"I really don't think that's anybody's business," Rousey said.

As for Tarverdyan, he took the high road as well, staying focused on the task at hand, which is Rousey beating Holly Holm next month at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia.

Tarverdyan promised that he never would say anything bad about anybody's mother and that's the end of the story as far as he is concerned.

"It doesn't matter for me," Tarverdyan said. "We have a fight in front of us Nov. 14. That's all I worry about and I care about at this point. It's her mom, at the end of the day. And that's it. I'm a person that's never spoke negative about anybody's mom and will never do that. Friendship, anybody — I've always said a mom is a mom and that's it. That's all I have to say."

Rousey is set to finish her training camp in the next few days before traveling to Australia to put the final touches on her preparation before facing Holm. The fight will mark Rousey's third title defense in 2015 and seventh title defense in the UFC overall.
