Ricardo Lamas to face Hacran Dias at UFC Fight Night in San Antonio
"The Bully" is back.
In his first appearance since fighting for the featherweight title in February, Ricardo Lamas will meet Hacran Dias at UFC Fight Night on June 28 in San Antonio, the UFC announced Sunday. That card will air live on FOX Sports 1.
Lamas (13-3) fell to champion Jose Aldo by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 169 on Feb. 1 in Newark, N.J. The 31-year-old reeled off four straight wins before that and is still one of the most highly regarded fighters at 145 pounds in the UFC. He's currently ranked No. 3 among contenders.
Dias (21-2-1) doesn't have quite the resume of Lamas, who has defeated the likes of Cub Swanson and Erik Koch. But the Brazilian does boast an impressive record and was on a nine-fight winning streak before falling to Nik Lentz last May. Dias was supposed to fight Tatsuya Kawajiri in January, but pulled out due to injury. Before that, both Rodrigo Damm and Manny Gamburyan withdrew from fights with him because they got hurt.
It's coincidental that Lamas fought Aldo last, because Dias trains with Aldo and UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao at Nova Uniao in Rio de Janeiro.
The main event of UFC Fight Night in San Antonio is scheduled to be Swanson taking on Jeremy Stephens in a featherweight top contender bout. Kelvin Gastelum meets Nicholas Musoke in the co-main event.
