Report: Jon Jones exits rehab after one day, plans to attend AFC title game this weekend
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones entered rehab last week after it was revealed that he tested positive for a substance found in cocaine prior to his fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182, but it seems his stint in the program lasted for only one night.
According to Jones' mother, Camille, in an interview with WBNG in New York, the most dominant fighter on the planet checked himself into rehab last Tuesday and exited the facility one day later.
"I'm glad that this happened to Jon, this stopped him in his tracks, this let him know that he may need to change some friends, you know, because everyone is not for you for the best," Camille Jones said. "So this is a good thing as far as our family is concerned, so we wasn't upset. Me and my husband considered it a blessing from God that our child was able to be helped and know that he need to stop and know that he needed the assistance to stop before it came to something worse."
Jones' mother says the first question they asked him after the test results were made public was asking him if he had a serious problem with drugs. His mother also revealed the drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission came a day after he was hanging out with old friends and got caught doing "something he shouldn't have done."
Jones then apparently entered the recovery program and then left the next day, but his mother says that he's continuing to research and educate himself on the issue now that he's back in his public life.
The next stop for Jones will be a trip to Boston this weekend, but not to attend the UFC Fight Night card taking place at the TD Garden Arena on Sunday night.
Instead, Jones will be attending the AFC championship game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts to watch his brothers, Arthur and Chandler, play each other. Arthur is a defensive end for the Colts, and Chandler plays the same position for the Patriots.
Jones has yet to make any kind of public appearance since his positive drug test, so it's safe to say everyone will be on the lookout for the UFC's reigning 205-pound king at the AFC championship game.
