REPLAY: UFC 181: Hendricks vs. Lawler II weigh-ins

Published Dec. 5, 2014 4:00 p.m. ET

The UFC 181 weigh-ins mostly went without particular heat or incident until the  fighters from the last three bouts of tomorrow’s big pay per view event faced-off after making weight. Heavyweights Brendan Schaub and Travis Browne continued their war of words after stepping off the scales in the Mandalay Bay Events Center and getting into one another’s faces.

As a matter of fact, Schaub and Browne’s new coach Edmond Tarvedyan also shared angry words and pointed fingers, which is a continuation of their recent trash talk through the media.

Similarly, lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and challenger Gilbert Melendez got up close and personal next to UFC president Dana White on stage at the UFC 181 weigh-ins with Melendez saying something to the champ.

Chants of “Gilbert! Gilbert” rang out through the arena, proving once and for all that San Francisco is closer to Las Vegas than Milwaukee is.  Melendez told Joe Rogan that this is the “most important fight of my life,” and that though “Pettis is a tough guy…I ain’t afraid of him at all.”

The champion’s interview was largely drowned out by boos from the crowd but he kept things succinct, anyway saying, “I’m back.”

The heavy eating and heavy cutting welterweight champion Johny Hendricks, per usual, looked as though he was in the midst of a bad flu and celebrated raucously when it was announced he had made the 170 pound limit. Robbie Lawler looked stoic and said, “the talk is over. Let’s do this, boys.”
