Rashad Evans emotional after loss: 'I feel like I'm fighting against myself'
A loss is always a tough pill to swallow, but for Rashad Evans it was even worse Saturday night because he never even got started before his fight with Glover Teixeira was over.
Evans fell victim to Teixeira's heavy hands early in the first round after getting clipped with a hard left from the Brazilian before being tagged with an even harder right that put him down and out.
Evans hasn't tasted defeat very often in his career, and this is only the second time he's ever been knocked out, but it was a bitter loss after walking into the fight with such high hopes.
Following two years filled with injuries and uncertainty, Evans felt like this was his chance to reclaim a spot in the top five and make one more charge toward the title. Now he has two straight losses and no clear idea where to go from here.
"That's a good question," Evans told FOX Sports when asked what comes next. "I want to go back in there and obviously I want to fight again. But there's some things I need to clear up, there's some things that I need to do to get me back."
Considering he never really got the chance to prove himself in the Octagon on Saturday night, the defeat is that much harder to handle.
Fighting back the tears after the loss, Evans seemed uncertain about his future in regards to what he needs to do to bounce back after arguably the toughest stretch of his professional career.
"Fighting, it used to come so easy, so natural," Evans said. "Now I feel like I'm fighting against myself. I just need to get back that thing."
The loss dropped Evans to just 2-4 over his past six fights with the top of the light-heavyweight division now even further out of reach. It's unknown what Evans will do next, but it seems he has some soul searching to do before any decisions are made.
