Rafael dos Anjos open to superfight with Robbie Lawler at UFC 200
UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos may have lost out on a chance at huge payday at UFC 196 against Conor McGregor but the Brazilian isn't tripping about the missed opportunity.
Instead, he's looking ahead and volunteering his services for a superfight with Robbie Lawler.
"I don't know the UFC's plans, but I'm here, man," dos Anjos said on The MMA Hour. "I'm here to fight anybody. I'll fight welterweight too, if they need.
"I respect Robbie Lawler, but if UFC needs somebody to fight for the welterweight (title), I would fight."
Not many people are volunteering to fight Lawler after his incredible title defenses against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit. Not to mention his jump to welterweight would put RDA at a serious size disadvantage. Dos Anjos' one-minute-six-second thrashing of perennial contender Donald Cerrone could keep his name in the conversation, though.
Dos Anjos broke his foot just two weeks before UFC 196, but he said that he's healing nicely and should be ready to go for UFC 200 in July.
In all reality, dos Anjos will likely be matched up with the winner of the bout between top contenders Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the last person to beat dos Anjos inside the Octagon. Another potential opponent is rising lightweight Eddie Alvarez, who is coming off a win against former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis.
Regardless of who he fights next, UFC 200 will be big enough for dos Anjos to recoup some of the money he missed out on at UFC 196.
