Matt Brown: Holly Holm 'is the toughest test of Ronda Rousey's career'
Holly Holm will walk into her fight against Ronda Rousey this weekend as a decided underdog, but top five ranked welterweight Matt Brown believes she will absolutely be the toughest test the UFC bantamweight champion has ever faced.
Brown couldn't quite pull the trigger to pick Holm in the fight on the latest Great MMA Debate podcast, but he believes she will present problems for Rousey that she hasn't seen before in the UFC.
"I can't pick her but for one, she is the toughest test of Ronda's career. For two, I can see her winning and if I was allowed to bet -- with those odds I think it's a worthy bet," Brown said.
"It's a completely different test for Ronda. The fact is Holly is the most disciplined fighter she's ever fought by far. Holly has the best camp of anybody she's ever fought. They're going to put the right camp around her. They're going to put the right game plan around her. Holly's very disciplined as we've seen so far."
Brown goes into further detail when discussing Holm's ability to find holes in Rousey's game to expose her during the fight, but to simplify things there's already a model in the UFC to follow for a similar strategy.
Brown looks at former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida when he first arrived in the UFC as a prime example of a fighter who could stick, move and out point opponents without taking much damage.
Holm would be wise to do similar according to Brown, who sees her skill set as the kind that could give Rousey problems in a fight.
"She has the potential ability to Lyoto Machida her. To touch her up on the feet," Brown said.
