Kyle Snyder: 'I want to fight'
Kyle Snyder took to social media to throw his hat into the world of mixed martial arts.
UFC 203 may have rubbed some people the right way, as US Olympic wrestling champion Kyle Snyder has since announced he’d like a shot at fighting in the UFC. Snyder, fresh off of a victory at the 2016 Olympics, took to Twitter to drop the announcement early Sunday morning.
I want to fight @ufc

Snyder was in attendance at UFC 203 where Stipe Miocic defeated Alistair Overeem to retain the heavyweight title and former professional wrestler Phil “CM Punk Brooks made his mixed martial arts debut. He was shown on camera during the Pay Per View broadcast, sporting his gold medal to a response of cheers and chants of “USA.”
Snyder certainly has the credentials to be a massive signing for any MMA promotion. The 20-year-old Ohio State Junior has put together an impressive run as the 2015 Pan Ams Champion, 2015 World Champion, 2016 Olympics gold medalist, and 2016 NCAA Champion.
While his post only creates speculation, the conversation turns to a number of questions for commentators to discuss. Snyder has revealed plans to be an Olympic competitor for the next five competitions, which leads through 2032 where he would be 36 years of age. From a weight class standpoint he has wrestled at 197 pounds and heavyweight, where he won the title even though he was the lightest in the field at 226 pounds. This would place him within the light heavyweight division, immediately creating intriguing matchups against other wrestlers.
Mixed marital arts, and the UFC specifically, has welcomed many Olympic competitors throughout the years. Ronda Rousey is perhaps the most prominent name from the group. But others such as Sara McMann, Dan Henderson, Daniel Cormier, Yoel Romero and others shouldn’t be forgotten. Snyder is perhaps the most decorated of this group, if he were to reach the biggest stage in the sport.
