Johny Hendricks vs. The Spartan Race
How does surging UFC welterweight Johny Hendricks kick back on the weekends just before starting the most important training camp of his career?
By running a Spartan Race.
Billed as “the world’s leading obstacle race series,” Spartan Races combine distance runs with various obstacles, testing a competitor’s heart, endurance, and determination, plus their willingness to get dirty, and in Hendricks’ case, combat his fear of heights.
UFC Ultimate Insider tags along with “Bigg Rigg” and UFC lightweight Jamie Varner as they compete against themselves, each other, and the Spartan Race course in Burnet, Texas. For the pair of UFC contenders, it’s a break from the usual training routine they go through day in and day out, and an opportunity to “have fun and compete and not get hit” as Varner puts it.
