Joe Lauzon tells Kenny Florian about his favorite career fight
Former rivals and perhaps the two best MMA fighters to ever come out of New England, Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon, got together recently at Florian Martial Arts in Brookline, Massachusetts to share laughs and memories —specifically of Joe's favorite all-time fight.
"I loved the fight with Melvin [Guillard]. That's probably my favorite fight," Lauzon told Florian.
"Everyone just assumed he was going to knock me out. It was nice."
Back in 2011, Guillard rose a five-fight win streak into his UFC 136 Houston contest against Lauzon. The KO artist was calling for a title shot sooner rather than later, but Lauzon stopped his momentum short in under a minute.
Joe's precision striking caught Guillard early; wobbled and dropped him. From there, the submission expert finished the fight with a rear naked choke at 47 seconds into the fight.
"Then, afterwards, he was saying, 'Oh, it was a lucky punch,' or something like that," Lauzon remembered, with a grin.
"It was just satisfying. He just runs his mouth, nonstop. He loses, and then he tells everyone, 'I'm the best fighter in the division. I'm the champ.' That was satisfying, because he's kind of a jerk."
