Glover Teixeira caps UFC on FOX Fight Night with KO over Evans
Heavy-handed light heavyweight Glover Teixeira capped off UFC on FOX Fight Night in Tampa with a first-round knockout of former champion Rashad Evans for his 25th career victory.
The win moves Teixeira one step closer to a light heavyweight title shot and put the icing on the cake by calling out one of the division’s most feared fighters, Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson.
In the co-main event, Rose Namajunas racked up another UFC win in a rematch with former “Ultimate Fighter” housemate Tecia Torres, while UFC veteran Cub Swanson got back to his winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Hacran Dias.
And in the most anticipated fight of the evening, lightweight Khabb Nurmagomedov proved he’s still one of the top 155-pound fighters in the world by brutally dispatching UFC newcomer Darrell Horcher for his 23rd consecutive victory.
Stephen Graves, Michael Chiesa and Santiago Ponzinibbio all posted stoppages during the prelims, while former 125-pound title contender John Dodson scored potentially just biggest KO of the night with his 40-second finish of Manny Gamburyan.
The UFC returns next weekend, April 23, for the return of former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones as he takes on formidable contender Ovince Saint Preux in the main event of UFC 197.
