Frank Mir returns at UFC 184 to face Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will return this February as he looks to stave off retirement and a future without fighting when he takes on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva at UFC 184 in Los Angeles.
Mir (16-9) hasn't fought since last February when he lost a unanimous decision to Alistair Overeem at UFC 169. The defeat moved Mir to 0-4 in his last four fights and put him on the brink of a possible exit from the sport.
Mir told FOX Sports in June that he felt he still has a few years left to fight, but he was taking an undetermined amount of time off to allow his body to heal and mind to rest.
"I kind of felt that maybe I was a little burned out and wasn't putting everything into the training and the fights," Mir said. "I think the last couple of fights, I was looking more forward to the fight being finished than the fight itself. I just saw the signs of being burnt out and decided to take some time off."
Mir will face a very big challenge when he returns against former title contender Antonio "Bigfoot' Silva, who is also looking to bounce back after a recent loss to Andrei Arlovski in Brazil.
Silva (18-6-1) put on arguable the greatest fight in heavyweight history last year in his battle with Mark Hunt, but following the bout he tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone and faced a nine-month suspension as a result. He got back in the Octagon in September and fell by knockout to Arlovski in the first round.
Both fighters will want to avoid another loss so this is definitely a do or die situation for Mir and Silva at UFC 184 in Los Angeles.
